Bhimtal, situated at a distance of 22 kms from Nainital, is named after one of the Pandava brothers called Bhim. The largest lake in the district of Nainital, Bhim Tal is 1701 metres by 265 metres, 265 metres longer than Naini Lake. The lake known for its magnificent majesty is situated at an altitude of 1371.6 metres above sea level.
Naini Lake, situated at an altitude of 2000 feet above sea level and surrounded by green hilltops, is a major tourist attraction. Naini Lake is a natural freshwater lake, of tectonic origin, located amidst Nainital city of Uttarakhand. Naini Lake is one of the four lakes in Kumaon hills, the three other being Sattal Lake, Bhimtal Lake and Naukuchiyatal Lake.
This course was the exclusive preserve of the erstwhile united province and subsequently Uttar Pradesh. In the year 1994, the course was opened to the public. In Nov. 2000, after the creation of Uttaranchal(now Uttarakhand), the golf course became a part of residence of the governor of new state.
At a distance of about 23 Kms. from Nainital at an altitude of 1370 mts. Sattal is a unique, unforgettable spot having cluster of lakes placed amidst the oak forest. It is comparable with westmoreland of england. As one approach toward sattal first lake is old Nal Damyanti lake. On moving ahead there is the ashram of stanley Johns an American missionary. Next lake is Panna or Garude lake.
Almora is located at Kumaon Hills. It has an average elevation of 1,651 metres (5,417 feet). Almora is located on a ridge at the southern edge of the Kumaon Hills of the Himalaya range. In the shape of a horse saddle shaped hillock, it is surrounded by thick forests of pine and fir trees. Flowing alongside the city are rivers of Koshi,(Kaushiki), and Suyal (Salmale). The snow capped Himalayas can be seen in the background.
Jim Corbett National Park lies in the Nainital, Pauri Garwhal and Bijnore Districts of Uttaranchal. The present area of the Reserve is 1318.54 sq. km. including 520 sq. km. of core area and 797.72 sq. km. of buffer area. The core area forms the Jim Corbett National Park while the buffer contains reserve forests (496.54 sq.km.) as well as the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary (301.18 sq.km.)
Located 53 km to the north of Almora, Kausani, is a picturesque hill station famous for its scenic splendour and its spectacular 300 km-wide view of the Himalayas. Snuggled amongst thick, dense pine forests, atop a narrow ridge, the view of the snow covered Trishul and Nanda Devi is so vivid that one gets a feeling of the snow being within touching distance.
This beautiful place is 2286 mts in altitude and 51 Kms. from Nainital. Surrounded by fruit orchards and thick coniferous forest it was developed by the Britishers as research and education institute (IVRI) in 1893. It is the celebrated scenic spot overlooking long ranges of Himalaya.An old temple of Lord Shiva exist on the top of a rock.
Raj Bhavan was built by British as residence of Governor of North West Province. Now Raj Bhavan is the official accommodation of Governor (Uttaranchal).State guests coming to Nainital also use it for their stay. It consists of a marvelous garden, Golf Links, Swimming Pool. Jhandidhar Modi Heights,Munshi heights are the other places in the complex worth seeing .
Ranikhet is situated in the northern part of the state of Uttaranchal, in the northern region of India. It is situated in the Kumaon hills and is located on an altitude of 1824 m above sea level.
